{"id":21946,"date":"2013-02-16T13:00:49","date_gmt":"2013-02-16T20:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/?p=21946"},"modified":"2013-02-16T15:12:32","modified_gmt":"2013-02-16T22:12:32","slug":"are-your-images-being-stolen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2013\/02\/16\/are-your-images-being-stolen\/","title":{"rendered":"Are your images being stolen?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>It takes a thief to catch a thief.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>It seems incongruous that the arch-thief in American commerce, Google, should have crafted a tool which helps photographers seek out illegal use of their images.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s called www.images.Google.com and you have two choices to search for your image on the web:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Upload a copy of the image to Google\n<li>Input the URL for the image\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now the first approach has to be lunacy.  Like giving a fresh needle and loaded syringe to an addict.  So I opted for the second and searched for my <a href=http:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2007\/04\/15\/about-the-snap-max\/ target=_blank>wolfhound picture<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><center><img src=http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog\/CruftsWolfhound.jpg><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>Absent a couple of non-commercial Tumblr illict reproductions &#8211; hardly of concern &#8211; one cropped up where the <i>schmuck<\/i> who stole my picture was using it to advertise his tweed clothing on eBay.UK (shock news that eBay might actually be involved in providing a conduit for theft).<\/p>\n<p>So I wrote to the son of an unmarried mother in simple terms:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog\/Image_theft.jpg\" width=\"767\" height=\"667\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>You may wish to use the thieves&#8217; tool to catch thieves yourself.<\/p>\n<p><b>Follow-up Feb 16, 2013:<\/b>  The thief has now taken my image off his site.
