{"id":22016,"date":"2013-02-25T01:00:28","date_gmt":"2013-02-25T08:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/?p=22016"},"modified":"2013-02-25T08:45:24","modified_gmt":"2013-02-25T15:45:24","slug":"filbert-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2013\/02\/25\/filbert-street\/","title":{"rendered":"Filbert Street"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>SF&#8217;s steepest.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia has <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Filbert_Street_(San_Francisco) target=_blank>Filbert Street<\/a> as one of San Francisco&#8217;s steepest and the massive coronary which threatens as you make your way to the top makes it hard to argue.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s even a school at the east end, near Coit Tower and what better way to illustrate just how steep it is?<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog\/Filbert_Street_1.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia says the steepest section is 17.5 degrees.  I borrowed my son&#8217;s protractor and checked the bus out.  It came to 16 degrees.  Close.<\/p>\n<p>The stretch referred to in the Wikipedia piece is here:<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog\/Filbert_Street_2.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<i>Looking east.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog\/Filbert_Street_3.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<i>Looking west.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p>You drive down that section in second gear with your foot on the brake &#8230;. this section is one way, downhill only.<\/p>\n<p>In the second image you can see Coit Tower at the left (close to the location of the first picture), St. Peter and Paul Church at center-left on Washington Square in the heart of North Beach (Little Italy) and the Oakland Bay Bridge on the horizon.  Quite a view.
