{"id":25341,"date":"2013-11-23T01:00:02","date_gmt":"2013-11-23T08:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/?p=25341"},"modified":"2013-11-23T18:41:10","modified_gmt":"2013-11-24T01:41:10","slug":"fishermans-wharf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2013\/11\/23\/fishermans-wharf\/","title":{"rendered":"Fisherman&#8217;s Wharf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>More than meets the eye.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Say &#8216;Fisherman&#8217;s Wharf&#8217; to any long time San Francisco denizen and the chances are that you will be rewarded with looks of distaste and words to the effect of &#8216;tourist trap&#8217;.  And along the main drag through this community, replete with revolting T-shirts and even more tasteless souvenirs, that is largely correct.<\/p>\n<p>But underneath the noise there is a real fishing community here and it doesn&#8217;t take any effort to walk off the beaten track to discover it.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the start of the Dungeness Crab fishing season and crab pots abound.<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Crab_pots.jpg\" width=\"681\" height=\"1014\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<i>Crab pots ready for deployment.  85mm MF Nikkor.<\/i><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The stainless steel wires on these are laboriously repaired before the start of the season.  It&#8217;s illegal to catch female crabs (a strange form of eugenics &#8211; don&#8217;t they need males?) and undersized ones can easily escape the pot.<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/S_and_M.jpg\" width=\"1013\" height=\"702\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<i>Fishermen are not without humor.  85mm MF Nikkor.<\/i><\/center><\/p>\n<p>One of the few concessions to modernity is the use of power washers to clean the floats which designate the location of the crab pots.<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Float_washing.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<i>Cleaning the floats.  20mm MF Nikkor.<\/i><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Truth be told, watching these chaps at work it&#8217;s clear they could do this far faster with an old-fashioned bristle brush, with less damage to the floats.<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/FishermensWharf_GGB.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<i>THE bridge is always present. 85mm MF Nikkor.<\/i><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Every aficionado of early Manual Focus Nikkors owes it to himself to get the <a href=http:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2013\/10\/05\/20mm-f3-5-ud-nikkor\/ target=_blank>20mm UD Nikkor<\/a> made in the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Storage_lockers.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<i>Eerie storage lockers.
