{"id":26206,"date":"2014-01-08T01:00:11","date_gmt":"2014-01-08T08:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/?p=26206"},"modified":"2019-12-18T23:10:09","modified_gmt":"2019-12-19T06:10:09","slug":"sausalito","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2014\/01\/08\/sausalito\/","title":{"rendered":"Sausalito"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>A real charmer.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/sausalito_map.jpg\" width=\"727\" height=\"558\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>A short ferry trip away from San Francisco&#8217;s Financial District, Sausalito has migrated from being a stronghold of shipbuilding to one of high priced real estate, in a couple of generations.  You can either take the rather tired ferry or drive across the Golden Gate Bridge heading north, exiting at Alexander Avenue.  I opted for the latter, as I wanted to check out the Marin Headlands <i>en route<\/i> for a day of R&#038;R.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Sausalito&#8217;s greatest claim to fame is that Fleetwood Mac recorded its best selling album &#8216;Rumors&#8217; there in 1976, but none of the group has much recall of the location &#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>A haven of civility and service, the <a href=http:\/\/www.innabovetide.com target=_blank>Inn Above Tide<\/a> is unreservedly recommended:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_04.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Arriving in time for the cocktail hour, my room had a balcony on the bay.  The Oakland Bay Bridge is almost lost in the mist on the horizon.<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_01.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>A glance around the privacy wall on the balcony disclosed the main drag at dusk, overlooked by exotic homes:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_02.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Scoma&#8217;s seafood restaurant has a beautifully situated outlet in the heart of Fisherman&#8217;s Wharf on the city side; the location of its sister restaurant in Sausalito is no less dramatic:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_03.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Dinner at <a href=http:\/\/salitoscrabhouse.com target=_blank>Salito&#8217;s<\/a> a short walk down the main street saw this piping hot pan of Sand Dabs suffused in a sea of barley:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_06.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"764\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Walking home was a lot of fun:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalio_night.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"764\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Evenings are nothing if not restful:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_14.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Awoken the next morning by a barking sea lion &#8211; nature&#8217;s alarm clock &#8211; I popped out on the balcony in my PJs to see this:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_05.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"608\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>A bracing morning walk before breakfast affords lots of opportunities for classic pictorialism:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_07.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_08.jpg\" width=\"681\" height=\"1014\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_15.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"537\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Any number of small cafeterias make for ample breakfast choices:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_09.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I opted for Caffe Tutti, a stone&#8217;s throw from the hotel, providing a warm and welcoming interior:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_10.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_11.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The nets put out at night (to keep the sea lions safe, maybe?) were being pulled up as I returned to my room:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Sausalito_12.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>You can read more of Sausalito&#8217;s history <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sausalito target=_blank>here<\/a>, and the city is recommended next time you are in need of a spot of R&#038;R.<\/p>\n<p>All but two snapped on the Panny GX7 with the 17mm Zuiko and 45-200mm Panny lenses &#8211; a light and capable travel outfit.
