{"id":33877,"date":"2019-09-02T06:34:11","date_gmt":"2019-09-02T13:34:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/?p=33877"},"modified":"2019-09-03T15:14:24","modified_gmt":"2019-09-03T22:14:24","slug":"in-philadelphia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2019\/09\/02\/in-philadelphia\/","title":{"rendered":"In Philadelphia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>The city of brotherly love.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>While the primary purpose of our trip to Philadelphia was for my son WInston to tour and interview at <a href=http:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2019\/08\/27\/haverford-college\/ target=_blank>Haverford<\/a> and <a href=http:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2019\/08\/29\/swarthmore-college\/ target=_blank>Swarthmore<\/a>, we made a point of hitting some highlights of this varied city.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_01.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nTony Luke&#8217;s Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches are reported to be the best so where else for our first ever taste?  This denizen, &#8216;wife beater&#8217; and all, was enjoying his, along with a gallon of water.  The restaurant is in the worst area imaginable.  The sandwiches were fine!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_02.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nWe pose at the Rocky statue outside the Museum of Art.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_03.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nThe Philadelphia Museum of Art houses a tremendous modern art collection.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_04.jpg\" width=\"681\" height=\"1014\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nMilton Avery&#8217;s &#8216;Black Jumper, 1944, offsets a visitor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_05.jpg\" width=\"681\" height=\"1014\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nThis too, apparently, is Art.  Con Art.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_06.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nIndependence Hall where both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were signed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_07.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nYeah, right.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_08.jpg\" width=\"681\" height=\"1014\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nIndependence Hall is very well maintained &#8211; here&#8217;s the clock tower.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_09.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nThe Court Room inside the Hall, a suitable venue to try the untreated syphilitic in the Oval Office today.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_10.jpg\" width=\"681\" height=\"1014\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nThe architecture has withstood time well.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_11.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nThe Hall room where the Constitution was debated.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_12.jpg\" width=\"681\" height=\"1014\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nThe Liberty Bell, crack and all.  Maybe they should have bought Chinese?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_13.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nThe forecourt of the Barnes Foundation, home to one of the finest collections of 19th century French art on the planet.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_14.jpg\" width=\"681\" height=\"1014\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nThe Barnes is a no expense spared institution.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_15.jpg\" width=\"681\" height=\"1014\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nJust for openers &#8211; Seurat&#8217;s luminous &#8216;Bathers&#8217; and C\u00e9zanne&#8217;s &#8216;Card Players&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Philly_16.jpg\" width=\"1014\" height=\"681\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nA final view of the Barnes.<\/p>\n<p><\/i><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>Despite vast disparities of wealth &#8211; we saw the best and the worst of the city &#8211; Philadelphia was incredibly welcoming, a quiet politeness pervading the air.
