Forever fighting the last war.  &#8220;You mean a single cruise missile can take out our $50 billion aircraft carrier and her complement of 5,000 sailors?  Obviously, we need to build more aircraft carriers&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>And Canon, Nikon <I>et al<\/I> are building aircraft carriers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No computational photography\n<li>Massive bulk\n<li>Extremely high cost\n<li>Fragile\n<li>No Night Mode\n<li>Heck, they can&#8217;t even tell you where your snap was taken\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wandering around the garden the other night I was reminded of this lack of vision (well, it was plenty dark out there) when I spotted this rock illuminated by a single, distant landscape light.  Out came the iPhone, Night Mode came on automatically, I held the thing more or less steady in my hand and click.  There it was.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Face_night_mode.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\n<I>The Mask.  Night mode rules.<\/I><\/center><\/p>\n<p>And like those generals&#8217; war toys, the toys passing as modern &#8216;professional&#8217; cameras are already so much useless junk.<\/p>\n<p>iPhone 12 Pro Max Snap, no Pentagon technology involved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Big Boys still don&#8217;t get it.
