{"id":39760,"date":"2025-03-12T08:39:58","date_gmt":"2025-03-12T15:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/?p=39760"},"modified":"2025-05-04T12:13:49","modified_gmt":"2025-05-04T19:13:49","slug":"canon-50mm-f-1-4-some-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2025\/03\/12\/canon-50mm-f-1-4-some-results\/","title":{"rendered":"Canon 50mm f\/1.4 &#8211; some results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><I>Not half bad.<\/I><\/p>\n<p><I>For an index of all Leica-related articles click <a href=https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/indexes\/photography\/leica\/ target=_blank>here<\/a><\/I>.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Canon 50mm LTM 9.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<I>M3, 50mm Canon f\/1.4 LTM and a BIG print.<br \/>\nI added the red lens alignment <a href=https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2025\/03\/09\/adding-indexes-to-ltm-lenses\/ target=_blank>index dome<\/a>.<\/I><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>After the interminable wait for the scans to come back from the <a href=https:\/\/sharpprints.com target=_blank>photo lab<\/a> &#8211; sometimes I just hate film &#8211; they finally arrived 9 days after mailing in my Dropbox account and I duly downloaded the Noritsu HQ scans into LRc and immediately <a href=https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2025\/02\/14\/adding-exif-data-to-film-scans\/ target=_blank>added EXIF data<\/a>.  I generally search the LRc catalog by lens used as that seems to work best for my memory.<\/p>\n<p>What makes a lens &#8216;good&#8217;?  For me I care little about resolution charts, coma tests, distortion measurements, you name it.  What I want is a high resolution print at 13&#8243; x 19&#8243; in size, often cropped from just 50% of the original.  Using that criterion the <a href=hhttps:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2025\/02\/28\/canon-50mm-f-1-4-ltm\/ target=_blank>Canon 50mm f\/1.4 LTM lens<\/a> adapted to my Leica M3 is a fine lens indeed.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some results, all on pokey 100 ISO Kodak Ektar.  It may be slow but the grain is very fine indeed and the reds are the closest thing to Kodachrome since Kodachrome.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Canon 50mm LTM 1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<I>Barista girl. 1\/15th, f\/1.4.  Ektar is sloooow!<\/I><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Canon 50mm LTM 2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<I>Bench.  f\/8.<\/I><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Canon 50mm LTM 3.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<I>Local barber&#8217;s shop.<\/I><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Canon 50mm LTM 4.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<I>I couldn&#8217;t but think of Stieglitz&#8217;s famous <a href=https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wall_Street_(photograph) target=_blank>Wall Street image<\/a>.<\/I><\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Canon-50mm-LTM-5-BIG.jpg target=_blank><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Canon 50mm LTM 5.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<I>Near-Kodachrome reds.
