{"id":42469,"date":"2026-04-16T07:56:41","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T14:56:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/?p=42469"},"modified":"2026-04-16T07:56:41","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T14:56:41","slug":"the-macro-studio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2026\/04\/16\/the-macro-studio\/","title":{"rendered":"The macro studio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><I>A fine workplace.<\/I><\/p>\n<p><I>For an index of all Leica-related articles click <a href=https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/indexes\/photography\/leica\/ target=_blank>here<\/a><\/I>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s my studio setup for macro photography:<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog2\/Macro_studio.jpg\"  alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<I>A comfortable working environment.<\/I><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>The large backdrop and platform are from the <a href=https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2024\/11\/19\/studio-dogs-2\/ target=_blank>Studio Dogs<\/a> project.<\/p>\n<p>The small <a href=https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B0F8ND1HJ4?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title target=_blank>backdrop\/frame<\/a> is for macro work, using either a <a href=https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B076LY5WYQ?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2&#038;th=1 target=_blank>ring light<\/a> or studio strobes.  It comes with a selection of colored backgrounds on coated vinyl, making for easy clean-up when required.  Note the counterweight on the boom arm.  Everything is pretty much at eye level as my back has seen better days!<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2026\/04\/14\/helicon-focus-stacking-with-electronic-flash-and-the-leica-sl2-s\/ target=_blank>wireless remote transmitter<\/a> for the strobes is atop the Leica SL2-S which has a <a href=https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2026\/04\/12\/an-inexpensive-wired-remote-for-the-leica-sl-series\/ target=_blank>wired remote<\/a> fitted.  The <a href=https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B0DQCNL3C3?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1 target=_blank>sturdy B&#038;S head<\/a> ran me all of $20.  The equally sturdy <a href=https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2008\/11\/18\/linhof-s168-tripod\/ target=_blank>vintage Linhof S168 tripod<\/a> can be found in any number of variations on eBay, none of them cheap nowadays.<\/p>\n<p>The wall mounted monitor on the left is for tethered shooting with Lightroom.  The rug covers strobe cables to prevent tripping.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a fine work environment.  This image of my two Light Lens Lab optics, the 50mm Cooke Speed-Panchro and the 35mm 8-element Leitz clone is a 12 image focus stack made in Helicon Focus and took mere seconds to make.
