{"id":6804,"date":"2010-06-12T09:36:17","date_gmt":"2010-06-12T16:36:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/?p=6804"},"modified":"2010-06-12T09:43:42","modified_gmt":"2010-06-12T16:43:42","slug":"lightroom-3-grain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2010\/06\/12\/lightroom-3-grain\/","title":{"rendered":"Lightroom 3 grain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>A useful addition.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>One of the new features in LR3 is a set of sliders to add and manipulate the traditional effect of grain from film days of yore.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a straight, unprocessed snap:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog\/Cenetery_and_plane.jpg\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><i>Plane, graves and flowers. 5D, 1\/350, f\/11, 24-105mm at 24mm.<\/i><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s an enlarged section of the above &#8211; note the grain sliders at lower right:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog\/Cemetery_and_plane1.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"571\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>And here it is with the grain sliders adjusted to emulate high speed color film grain &#8211; I have to use enlargements to show grain owing to the grain free nature of the 5D&#8217;s sensor:<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pindelski.org\/Blog\/Cemetery_and_plane2.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"569\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The Roughness setting, here at 38, is a nice compromise.  Too small and the effect is too artificial.  Too high and it&#8217;s overdone.  Much the same goes for the Size slider, which I prefer to keep low.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a useful tool, especially if you hit one of those <a href=http:\/\/pindelski.org\/Photography\/2006\/07\/06\/a-plug-in-for-filmies-2\/ target=_blank>Sarah Moon<\/a> <i>faux<\/i> impressionism periods.<\/p>\n<p>To reset to default adjustments simply double click the &#8216;Amount&#8217; slider.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A useful addition.
