Photojournalist Alexey Yurenev pulls out all the stops in his pictorial on Brighton Beach, New York, ground zero for generations of Russian immigrants and refugees. Great photojournalism is alive and kicking.

Several of the images portray much bemedalled survivors of WW2 and the Battle of Stalingrad (the unspeakable defeating the despicable) and remind me of what a US Marine friend once said to me: “Thomas, men will give their life for a piece of ribbon.”
